The Piping Systems We Recommend To Our Clients
At Replumb Specialties Inc., we’re all about delivering the best water systems for our clients. We only install systems we truly stand by – which is why we steer clear of temporary solutions such as SharkBite fittings, shortcuts like ProPress fittings, and failure prone systems such as CPVC. We even have a page for each explaining why these just – well, suck (see above links). While we’re happy to install new copper piping systems if that’s the preference of our client, our favorites are the Uponor PEX-A ProPEX and AquaPEX systems. Over the past four decades, they’ve been known for their reliability, flexibility, and outstanding performance.
The Advantages of Uponor PEX-A
· Uponor PEX-A tubing is over 80% crosslinked, which is considerable compared to PEX-b’s 65-70%. Crosslinking is the process where polyethylene molecules form chemical bonds during manufacturing, which essentially creates a network of connected molecules. For PEX-a, this occurs when the polyethylene is in its amorphous state, above its crystalline melting point. This ensures an even distribution of these bonds.
This high percentage of crosslinking makes PEX-a pipes exceptionally flexible. They can make bends without kinking, which simplifies installation because of the reduction in the amount of fittings required, and therefore eliminating potential leak points. Additionally, the robust structure of PEX-a enhances its resistance to pressure and temperature fluctuations. This prevents cracking and makes it particularly effective in cold weathered areas. The crosslinking also improves the pipe’s durability. It ensures that PEX-a maintains its integrity over time, providing a reliable water delivery system.
· Uponor PEX tubing excels in freezing conditions due to their unique ability to expand and contract. This flexibility allows them to withstand the pressure of freezing water without bursting, unlike copper pipes. While we advise against allowing pipes to freeze, and our warranty does not cover freeze-related bursts caused by homeowner negligence, PEX pipes can handle these conditions effectively. When water inside the pipe freezes and expands, the pipe expands with it and then contracts back to its original size once the water thaws – preventing cracks and bursts. This resilience is validated by the Water Quality Association (WQA) Gold Seal certification, recognizing the pipes’ high performance in harsh conditions. Unlike copper pipes, PEX pipes do not suffer from corrosion or scaling, making them more reliable in cold weather. This makes PEX a superior choice for maintaining a consistent and safe water supply during winter, reducing the risk of water damage and costly repairs.
· Efficiency and Water Flow: The flexibility of PEX pipes allows them to bend around corners without the need for 90-degree elbows and other joints, which helps preserve water volume and pressure. Fewer joints mean fewer potential points for leaks, ensuring a more reliable and efficient water delivery system. By maintaining higher water pressure and reducing the risk of leaks, PEX pipes offer a significant advantage over more rigid materials like copper, which require numerous fittings and connections. This not only improves the overall performance of the plumbing system but also simplifies the installation process, making it quicker and less labor-intensive. The result is a more consistent water flow and a plumbing system that is both durable and efficient, offering long-term reliability and peace of mind.
· Using PEX pipes instead of copper significantly reduces environmental impact, as shown by a life cycle assessment published in the Journal of Cleaner Production. The study found that PEX not only has a lower upfront cost but also reduces carbon dioxide emissions, making it a more environmentally friendly choice. This reduction in emissions stems from several factors. PEX production consumes less energy compared to copper production. The lighter weight of PEX pipes reduces transportation energy and emissions. Additionally, PEX’s flexibility simplifies installation, cutting down on labor and resource use. These combined factors contribute to PEX being a greener option, providing both economic and environmental benefits over its lifespan.

A New Plumbing System Built For Each Property
Every system we construct uses the industry’s best and most reliable materials and components, always meeting or surpassing building code standards. Yet, we understand that reliability alone isn’t sufficient. When we design new water systems, we prioritize the needs of residents and the management team. We choose components that exceed the building’s capacity and route water lines using the most efficient paths available. This approach not only enhances system performance but also reduces our clients’ utility expenses. Strategic placement of water shutoff points ensures easy access for management teams, particularly during emergencies.
